For Chinese Level I students, we didn't learn the new words but review the old words. After we reviewed words we did small individual whiteboard activity. Later we acted out the story with TPRStorytelling circling quesitons. And the we read the story aloud and students did the chorally translation. After chorally translation we use TPRStorytelling circling questions about the story. And then students worked on coping down the story in pinyin and translate the story on their own. They also need to copy down the questions and answered them in full sentence in pinyin. Students were assigned time-reading and had a timed reading competition.
