For Chinese Level I students, we learned the days of the week, and the song "the days of the week" with TPR.
We used whiteboard to practice these words and the singing competition.
(Start with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)

For Chinese Level II & III, we learned the following sentence pattern. Students were using the clothes they designed last time and practice as groups with these patterns. Later we worked on the calendar and then read an article.

十月四日星期五 - October 4, Friday - A Day

For Chinese students we watched a video named "Robots" in Chinese. Students are asked to
1) write down 10 words they heard in the videos that they've learned, and
2)  write down  10 words they heard in the video that they haven't learned,
3) write a summary about the story they watch
and turn in at the end of the class.

For those who are absent from class today, they are supposed to come in after school and watch the video to make up the assignment.

十月三日星期四 - October 3, Thursday - B Day

For Chinese Level II & III, we first learned the following words and then we did some activities.

住(zhù)在(zài) = live in

找(zhǎo)來(lái)找(zhǎo)去(qù) = look for (everywehere); look around

去(qù) = to go

商(shāng)店(diàn) = store

城(chéng)市(shì) = city

你(nǐ)住(zhù)在(zài)哪(nǎ)裏(li)？ = where do you live?

我(wǒ)住(zhù)在(zài)……。  = I live....。

你(nǐ)去(qù)哪(nǎ)裏(lǐ)？ = Where did you go?

我(wǒ)去(qù)…..商(shāng)店(diàn)。= I went to ....store.

1) Practice 住(zhù)在(zài)

1. students were given a piece of paper and asked to write any city's name on the paper.

2. the teacher asked "你住在哪裏？“, the student answered the question in a full sentence with the city's name they wrote down.

3. Students lined up in two rows, and asked the student across him/her the question, he/she answered, and then asked the same question and received the answer. And then the students each row move one step toward left; the last student in each row needs to move to the end. They ask the same questions and received the answer from the students across them., and move one step again. Continue the steps until the students ask the same person at their first time.

2) Practice 去(qù)…..商(shāng)店(diàn)
1. on the back of the paper, this time students wrote down a store's name.
2. the teacher asked "你去哪裏？“the student answered the question in a full sentence with the store's name they wrote down, but this time they have to put 商店 in front of the store name. For example,

我(wǒ)去(qù)Wal-mart商(shāng)店(diàn) 。

 

For Chinese Level I students， we first learned the following words and we used PQA to practice these patterns. And the students were given a piece of paper. On the paper they made up a number and wrote it down on it. The teacher asked the students the question - ""你多大？“ and students answered the question with the number on the paper. Next on the back of the paper the students drew tic-tap-toe (9 boxes). They needed to ask 9 classmates the question "你多大？“ and the students answered. They needed to write down the name and the age in the boxes.  After 8 minutes, we played 'black out' that the teacher threw a ball to a student and asked "你多大?" and the student answered it. Other students corssed out the name called on their paper. The student who got called may throw the ball to another student and asked  "你多大?". Continued the steps until a student yelled aloud "我贏了“ I won.

十月二日星期三- October 2, Wednesday - A Day

For Chinese Level II & III, we first learned the following words and then we did some activities.

住(zhù)在(zài) = live in

3) Reading (Resource from TPRS I Love Learning Chinese).
The teacher read aloud sentence by sentence and asked the volunteer students some words and clarify the meanings. We used circling questions for listening and speaking and comprehension check. And then the students repeated after the teacher. And then.... and then....the time is up. :)

For Chinese Level I students, they are going to do the same assignment that A-Day students do which is watch the video name Terra Cotta (from the History Channel) and write an short essay about it.

十月一日星期二 October 1， Tuesday - B Day

I had a doctor appointment today so here is the sub plan.

For 7^th& 8^th period students (Chinese Level 1 & Foreign Language Survey)

1.    Please pass the lined paper to them, and tell them that they are going to watch a video about Terra Cotta Warriors, and that they are going to write an essay about what they watch.

2.    The video they are going to watch is named “TREASURE! TOMB OF THE TERRA COTTA WARRIORS DVD”, it’s only 50 minutes long. 

3.    The essay should include the following information.

a.     What is Terra-Cotta?

b.    When did it happen?

c.     Where is the location of Terra-Cotta?

d.    How did Terra-Cotta come from? /Why did Terra-Cotta happen?

e.     What do you think about Terra-Cotta?

4.    The content is more important than the length. (2-3 paragraphs would be enough). Everyone needs to turn the paper in.

For 6^thperiod students (Chinese Level II & III students)

1.    I am not sure if they watch the video Terra Cotta before; if they haven’t, you may let them watch the video and do the same assignment that 7^th& 8^th period students do. If they do, please pass out the Chinese character worksheet for them to work on. Once they are done, have them watch the video on Robots.
