Today we learned a poem in Chinese Level I, and a poem for Level II and III.
Chinese Level I we worked on the poem 靜夜思 written by one of the best poets in Chinese literature 李白. We first recited the poem a couple of times and imitated how to recite the poem as ancient Chinese poets did. Later we used small whiteboards to practice each phrase and then line. Next we recited the poem that was emitted a couple of words off the poem each time until all the words were gone and students were able to memorize it. At the end we did speedy reading. Some students were able to  memorize the poem without pinyin and reminders while some needed a couple of reminders.

For Chinese Level II and III, we learned the poem 金縷衣 by 杜秋娘. Similar to Chinese Level I activity, we recited the poem first and then had a couple of Chinese Level II students and a couple of Level III students recited it individually. And then we took out a word from each line, and recited the poem again, and had a couple of volunteer Chinese Level II students and a couple of volunteer Level III students recited it individually. After that we took out another word from each line and recited the poem again; a couple of students from each level recited the poem. We repeated these steps until only two words from each line left.
At the end of the class, we did speedy writing; students worked as pairs and read the poem up to 1 minute and then up to 30 second, 15 seconds, and 8 seconds. At the end, the teacher performed how fast she read the poem in 30 seconds; it came out she read the poem around 5-6 times in 30 seconds.

For Chinese Level I students we reviewed the words on the subjects and then we acted out a story with TPRStorytelling circling questions.

For Chinese Level I students
Today we learned subjects in Chinese.

We first introduced the vocabulary and then use PQA and circling questions to practice these words.
We played the ribbon game to practice the conversation..

你有沒有.......課?
我有....課
我沒有....課

And then students made a schedule of their school classes with A- Day and B- Day.
Next they drew a tic-tac-toe box on the back of the schedule and found 9 people to ask the following questions and then have their names sign on the boxes.

你的A Day有什麼課?
我的A Day有......課......課......課和......課

你的B Day有什麼課?
我的B Day有......課......課......課和......課

At the end, we played a bingo game with the tic-tac-toe boxes. The teacher asked a student 

你的A Day有什麼課? and the student answer the question. Circle the student name called on the tic-tac-toe boxes and who get the first 3 in a row win the game.

四月九日星期二 April 9, Tuesday - A Day

Chinese Level I (1st and 2nd periods),
Since they all learned these words before the spring break, you may just please play the video it again without any pause, just let them listen watch the words and listen.
After the video, please pass the sport flashcard sheet for them to color and be familiar with these words and complete the sentences on the back.

Chinese Level II & III (3rd periods)
1) Please do the same things as B- day Chinese Level I students do -- please show them the video and ask students to copy down the words and sentences while they are listening. You may need to pause the video for a couple of minutes for students to copy and then continue to play the video.
2) After they watch the video for 1st time, please replay it again, and this time no pause, just let them listen watch the words and listen.
3) Please pass the fill-in blank for them to work on. If there is some time left, then please give them the story to read and answer the questions.

四月八月星期一 April 8, Monday - B Day

I am in Boston for National Chinese Language Conference for 3 days. So I have a sub plan.
For April 8, Monday – B Day, Chinese Level I (5th and 6th periods),

 1) please show them the video and ask students to copy down the words and sentences while they are listening. You may need to pause the video for a couple of minutes for students to copy and then continue to play it.

 2) After they watch the video for 1st time, please replay it again, and this time no pause, just let them listen watch the words and listen.

 3) After the 2nd time watch the video, this time ask them to repeat aloud after the words and sentences after me in the video. (You may need to pause at the words and/or at sentences to give students time to repeat after me.)

4) Give the students 10-15 minutes to study the words and then give them half sheet lined-paper each and let them do the following quiz. (I didn’t print them out.) Quiz - please write the English meaning to each word.
